Messi, Ronaldo and Iniesta are finalists for Golden Ball Award – Los Angeles Soccer

World soccer organization FIFA and French magazine, France Football, have announced in Sau Paulo, Brazil, the three finalists for the Golden Ball.

The Golden Ball, originally called Ballon d’Or, is an award given to the best player of the year which was started by French magazine, France Football. The 23 players are mostly made up from teams that participated in the Euro 2012 held in Poland and Ukraine.

The three finalists are Lionel Messi from Argentina, Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal, and Andres Iniesta from Spain.. This award was inaugurated in 1956, and Lionel Messi has won the last three.

Messi and Iniesta are currently playing for Spanish club giant Barcelona, and Ronaldo plays for Barcelona’s rival, Real Madrid, who are also considered giants in Spain and throughout Europe.

The announcement of the three finalists for the Golden Ball will be formally done in Sau Paulo, Brazil, this Saturday when FIFA will have the lottery to determine the groups for the Confederations Cup to be played in Brazil 2013.

The winner of the Golden Ball will be properly announced on the 3rd of January in Zurich, Switzerland.

The three finalists have been selected by voting from a big group of journalists, trainers, and 23 team captains of national teams which were announced last October
