2014 World Cup Live Blog: Brazil vs Croatia – Live Blogs & Updates
But on Olic, I think he got it wrong.
A booking for Luiz Gustavo now as he chops down Modric on the break. They’re not really the sort of team to do all out defence. Could be a nervy finish
CLOSE FOR CROATIA! We’re into injury time and Julio Cesar has to be alert to beat away an effort…
Oscar wraps it up, but I think there was a foul on Rakitic in the build-up….
GOAL!!!!!!! Brazil 3-1 Croatia (Oscar ’90)
Oscar wraps up the game after expertly toe-poking an effort in from around 20 yards out. I’ll defend the ref for the penalty, because he was conned, I’ll defend him for the Neymar yellow, because I think he was right. Mind you, I bet Jose Mourinho is sat on his sofa wondering where those sort of performances were in the last two months of Chelsea’s season….
It could easily have been given, dan w – it’s definitely not been Croatia’s night in terms of decisions.
Croatia will feel aggrieved, and they have every right to that, but they can take a lot from this performance. A fine performance, even as some of his team-mates wilted under the pressure.
MODRIC GOES CLOSE! Julio Cesar beats away a low drive from the Real Madrid midfielder from range. Yes, he dived for the penalty, but over the course of the night he was brave, he never stopped running, he made his chances count and all under the most unimaginable pressure.
SUB: Brazil’s hero Neymar is subbed off to a fantastic reception from the home crowd. If they can give Brazil this kind of scare, they really, really should be capable of taking Mexico and Cameroon apart.
FULL-TIME! BRAZIL 3-1 CROATIA
The hosts get off to a winning start, but they made hard work of it – and some fortuitous decisions certainly helped matters.
. Five minutes to go here, and Croatia are well in this one.
Ian, maybe I’m taking an overtly English view of this, but I must respectfully disagree. Still, it’ll be three points to Brazil.
Oscar deserves that. Ramires is on.
Brazil have got their backs against the wall here. It’s an impudent finish, but the Croatia goalkeeper really should be saving that. Finally an easy decision for the referee there.
Well done, Neymar. I don’t think he raised an arm, I don’t think he used excessive force, I think he just made contact, which is fine
